We as a CBO are reaching out to our community and bringing the community together. We are involved in many projects and have many realistic goals. Building an orphanage is one of those goals. We have many orphans that truly need help with housing. We empower a Spirit of unity and are helping each other so that we can fix the true needs that the community faces. With our extensive agricultural program we are utilizing good farming techniques to grow crops. We also have a few small businesses to help in our efforts to become self-sustaining. As a community working together we can meet the ever growing challenges that face us today.
L.C.E.I. was formed to help address and fix some of the issues we face as a community. Food shortages would be at the top of the list. Our answer to that is our agricultural program. We are growing crops to help eliminate hunger here in Kampala. We are focused on feeding those in need and hungry. The primary recipients are the orphans and the elderly, but we are involving the truly poor people in the process. They are able to volunteer time in helping with the crops or volunteering to help with the children, so that they will benefit from the food as well. They can even volunteer in the day care center we have formed. We are coming together as a community and helping each other. Everyone is focused on the common good of all, rather than out only for themselves. We are trying to change the culture to a more unified community.
We understand that to become self-sustaining, we need to be able to fund what we are trying to accomplish as a community. We have a wood working business where we build many different things. The project in the picture, is a boat (a vessel) that is used to carry sand out of Lake Victoria for building houses. We also build furniture and other things to help in funding the projects that help us become more self sufficient. We grow crops as well to help. We do all we can together to fix the challenges we face as we draw closer as a community and work together to help those in need.
Clean water is vital to the community. It has always been a struggle to get clean water for cooking, drinking and overall cleanliness. Through our efforts already, we have been able to put in a well which provides clean water. Now the community as a whole benefits from the unified efforts. Just even more proof that working together pays off, and all can benefit from it!
Girls and women in Uganda hold unlimited potential. The barriers that hold women back are everywhere in this culture. Issues like gender-based violence remain high. Women are still not included in decision-making processes at all levels. Women and girls still spend long hours collecting water and firewood. Household chores limit school attendance and work options (Not to mention the cost).
They have less access to and control over the benefits from land tenure, education, and employment opportunities. Their increased contributions are needed to help Uganda reach their development goals. We promote women's engagement in every aspect of our community and CBO and are trying to do our part in changing the culture around us.
Our work aims to:
Historically, aquaculture has something of a bad reputation because it has been limited to large commercial facilities that require significant amounts of water and energy, and thus can be major sources of pollution. There are several similarities between gardening and fish farming: Both plants and fish need food and warmth; just as certain plants favor different seasons, there are cold-hardy fish and heat-loving fish; and both sorts of “gardens” require regular maintenance — you can’t just scatter a handful of seeds or sprinkle a few fingerlings in a pond, then expect to harvest anything edible in a few months. There is a cage method though, this aquaculture method “provides the simplest means of growing fish if you have access to a pond, or good size water source. This is the most inexpensive way, The only cost is for cage materials, fish and feed. We as a CBO are trying to solve the hunger issues that exist here. Through much research this method of fish farming can help us to produce and feed a multitude of people and help us to become much more self sufficient. We are raising donations to help us in this effort. We are not asking for a fish, We are not even asking to teach us to fish, we are asking for a small donation so we can produce MANY fish and keep them producing year round to feed as many as we can that are truly hungry. Please consider giving a small donation, give to a project that will keep on giving!
We have many special needs adults and children on Rusinga Island that want nothing more than just basic healthcare and equipment. Many are without even the bare essentials for themselves. The HIV and Aides crisis has damaged the social fabric of many communities here. Many of the physically and mentally challenged do without care. Our faith in God motivates us to serve all, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, impairment, or gender. Our aim is to make a better life for all. We are currently raising donations for basic equipment like wheelchairs, and braces.
Update: We are EXTREMELY happy to share that many of the special needs children have received free operations and free follow up care thanks to a special group of care providers and doctors who gave freely of themselves and their time to truly make a difference in the lives of some of the children. We say THANK YOU! Your love and care is a shining example of what is needed more than ever in the world today.
Working with land owners and planting crops and putting into practice good farming techniques, so all benefit from the work. Fighting hunger because no one should starve!
We run a daycare center to help mothers and grandparents with the children so they can work and the children are safe.
Wood working shop is one of our small businesses that we work to help us fund small projects.
Our vision is to be the role models for all local youth, providing a platform for youth-led program's, a forum for dialogue and a network to build hope and brighter future and
to put mentoring back into the community. Older generations must pass on their values, skills and faith to the young. The hope in mentoring is that our youth will take what we share and bring it to new heights. Youth mentoring is a natural part of a healthy family and community life. Too many youth lack the mentors to enable them to fully realize all that God has put into their lives. A strong representation and participation of youth in championing social, and economic development is needed.
Our goal is to be a platform where every young person can achieve personal and community goals, that lead to a healthy productive life.
Mentoring is an fundamental tool in helping children and youth find their way in life. Unfortunately, many youth lack natural mentors who can guide them through the often difficult task of growing up. Mentoring that is safe, effective and sustainable takes a dedicated team of people who can promote and encourage our youth.
The goal is to strive for academic excellence, to educate families to be more effective and successful while bringing together community resources to address youth empowerment. Our committee is made up of faith leaders, teachers and business leaders who are dedicated to serving the people and their best interests. We take our faith out of the churches and into the community, where it is truly needed.
One priority is teaching youth about themselves and promoting self-esteem through motivational group leaders while changing their outlook and giving them hope.
We are working with all youth and teaching them to believe and hope in a brighter tomorrow. Helping each other, growing up with positive values, and to be an effective part of something much bigger.
We want to energize all our youth to be all they can be through better education, work opportunities and commitment to unity and love.
To unify the voice of the youth, the fragmented voices and program’s of youth in communities, into one voice that can be heard by all.
